A Dose of Blogging Realness

blogging tips and realness how to stay consistent

Hey guys! I just wanted to take a second to check in with you all here. I feel like I was going strong with the fall/holiday content and then I just kind of came to a halt. What can I say? Blogging can be a bit of a rollercoaster if I’m being completely honest. Especially for someone who already has a bit of anxiety, sometimes you just need to take a step back. It’s SO easy to get caught up in the comparison game, whether it be with other people or yourself. More recently I feel like I was comparing myself…to MYSELF. Weird. Let me explain…

I’m going to be REALLY transparent here and let you guys in on a little secret. Sometimes when bloggers like myself work with brands, bigger brands or sometimes brands that aren’t all that ‘big’, they pay to what’s called ‘BOOST’ the post you’ve created for them. Boosting a post is basically putting marketing dollars towards a post and running it like an advertisement. Now, this is something that is fairly common for a brand to do. They want the post to get exposure and ultimately sell the item the brand is having you promote.

Recently, when the brand I am referring to boosted my post it went over quite well. There was a lot of positive feedback from people who were seeing the post and it brought a bunch of new traffic right here to my website! I’m not gonna lie, it got me SO EXCITED you guys! Imagine you’re performing a song on stage for like 5 people, and then all of a sudden 5,000 people appear in front of you. You either keep singing or you get off the stage. Sink or swim kinda vibes. So I was like…I’mma go ahead and SWIM hunny. Like I’ve been waiting for this moment my whole life kind of thing. LOL, okay I know I sound dramatic, but nonetheless I was excited. My content was being consumed, my links were being clicked, my pins were being pinned. A little sugar rush if you will.

Well then, after some time the traffic started to slow back down to a more ‘average’ rate for me…and what I noticed was that I started to slow back down to that average rate too. WTH?! I did not wake up today to be mediocre, okay. But in all honesty what I noticed is that I tend to perform based on who I think is watching me, and I doubt I’m alone in this.

But why do we do that? Why do we save our best works for the spotlight? Why doesn’t it seem as important if less people are seeing what we create? I don’t have all the answers but I do know one thing; and that is that I am super passionate about blogging. I started this blog back in late 2014 after seeing tons of fashion bloggers at NYFW and thinking ‘hell yeah – I can do that’. But guess what? Much like anything else, it’s harder than it looks and it comes with a bunch of ups and downs. And one of the hardest but most important parts of it all is staying consistent.

My thought on the matter is that if you dance like everyone is watching, eventually they will be. Meaning that if you put out your best content day in and day out then eventually the people who are meant to find you, will. Whether it’s 10 people or 10 million people. So, as hard as it is – my advice to you and myself (clearly lol) is to always do you, and do you at 100. It’s not always easy to sit down and ‘work’ for what seems like nothing but trust me, no matter the number you see on the screen in front you, you’re likely making an impact on someone. And even if you’re not aware of the impact you’re making on others you’re creating what YOU want and that’s the beauty of it all.

xx
