Feel Confident in Your Clothing | NYC Edition

Feel confident in your clothing

Feeling a little refreshed and ready to go today after a quick weekend in New York City. I always have such a great time when I visit NY and this time was no different. One of my favorite things about NY definitely has to be the food. There are SO many options you really can’t go wrong. The best thing I ate all weekend was the Lobster Roll at Gaby Bar in Midtown. Guys, it was DELICIOUS. I definitely recommend it if you are going to be in NY anytime soon!

I thought this outfit was fun for a summer night in NYC. The shoes give me a little bit of a beach-y vibe but I felt they still worked with my outfit (you can see how I styled them for the beach here). When I was packing for this trip I just kept thinking, I want to be COMFORTABLE. For me – feeling comfortable and confident in my outfit is really a must. If I don’t feel good in what I am wearing then it’s just a no go.

I wanted to share with you guys a few tips to feel confident in your clothing next time you’re getting dressed. Hopefully this helps you to feel like your bad-ass self and reminds you that we are all different shapes and sizes but we can all look good as long as we feel good!

Tip #1 – Make sure you are buying the right sizes

This is my NUMBER ONE TIP for feeling confident, sexy, and beautiful in anything you wear. If you buy something that is either too big or too small on your body you are just not going to feel your best. Sometimes, we have an item in our closet that we love but it doesn’t fit us anymore due to gaining or losing a few pounds. In cases like this I highly recommend searching for a good tailor in your area and taking your clothing in if it is something you really love. Often times they can bring something in or take it out a bit if needed. This happened to me when I got pregnant and started gaining a little bit of weight. I had to branch out and buy new sizes and as soon as I did that I feel 10x better getting dressed in the morning.

Tip #2 – Dress for YOU and not anyone else

This is a big one and to be honest, it is something even I struggle with some days. What I mean by this is you want to make sure you are buying and wearing clothes that are true to your personal style. Not because it’s trendy at the moment and you feel like it makes you look ‘cool’.

Now, I love a good trend as much as the next fashion blogger but you have to know what’s you and what isn’t. For instance – the ugly sneaker trend. Not me. I love sneakers with leggings and sometimes even with a cute floral dress but I cannot pull off the clunky ‘ugly’ sneaker trend you are seeing all over instagram these days. I think some girls do it great, but I would look extremely silly if I wore that because it doesn’t fit my personal style.

Tip # 3 – Forget about ‘Fashion rules’

I especially love living by this tip because for me there are no fashion rules. Yes, there are ways I typically dress but there is not a rule book I follow. In fact – I love wearing navy blue with black which for as long as I can remember was a fashion no-no. You have to be okay to make your own set of rules for what works for your personal style and your body type. So next time you’re getting dressed, forget the rules and let yourself get creative!
